Godrick Grove and Bluff Wedding by Mason and Megan

Russell060

Michelle and Matthew had a simple and elegant yet whimsical wedding. Located on the beautiful bluffs in Santa Barbara, CA the Godrick Grove in Elings Park was the perfect place for these two to tie the knot. These life long love birds celebrated their special day with close friends and family who made this day extra special. Mason and Megan Schroder were there to beautifully photograph all the candid joy and love this couple has for one another. Enjoy!

Girl Meets Boy…

Matt and I lived two doors down from each other when he was four and I was three. Our families were best friends and we spent lots of time playing together as children. We went to elementary school and junior high together. We were always friends and secretly had a crush on one another. After much prayerful consideration we decided to date once we were in high school and from there our relationship has flourished. It was amazing dating someone I had known and cared for my whole life.

We continued dating through college and were just waiting for the right time to be married. Over Christmas break of our last year in college, Matt’s parents had given us an awesome Christmas present. They had planned for us to take a scenic plane ride over the beautiful beaches of Ventura, our hometown. Little did I know, it wasn’t their plan, but Matt’s. We were up in the air and checking out the sights. We came above our favorite beach where we had always gone together growing up. There, laying in the sand, were our families, spelling out “MARRY ME!” I turned from the plane window to look at Matt, who was down on one knee in the plane with the ring in his hand. I can’t even explain how that moment felt! After six long years of dating we were thrilled to begin our lives together!

Memorable Moments…

Matt’s most memorable moment was seeing me walk down the aisle after waiting for that moment for so many years. My most memorable moment was right after we were married and had just walked back down the aisle. It felt surreal to know that I had just married the love of my life. We were ecstatic and just kept giggling and saying I can’t believe it!

Details…

I was most excited about the bluff that we were to be married on. The gorgeous bluff that overlooked a 180 degree view of the ocean and Santa Barbara backed up to rolling hills. I loved how empty the bluff was so the focus was only on the view. I was also excited to highlight the one special piece of decor we had– a wooden cross that Matt’s grandmother had made for us. We loved being married under the cross surrounded by the beauty of the scenery.

Wedding Planning Inspiration…

I wanted to keep the wedding very simple and natural. I knew I wanted the wedding to be completely outdoors (a bit of a challenge, which actually makes the planning anything but simple). We wanted to be completely surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation. I wanted people to feel how strong our love was by creating a very romantic setting in nature.

Color Palet…

I wanted the color palette to be neutral without having a “white wedding.” We used a lot of creme, white, and beige. I couldn’t choose bright colors for the wedding– I thought it was too bold for the soft, whimsical, romantic look I wanted.

RADDEST Wedding Vendors…

Scofield Catering was incredible! Their food and service was outstanding from the planning phases to the Big Day! They were so easy to work with and were wonderful about making sure we had everything we needed. Megan and Mason Schroder, our photographers, captured our beautiful day perfectly and made us feel so comfortable. Marie Shannon Confections made the most fabulous desserts. We had such a huge variety for everyone to choose from and each thing tasted amazing!
